In English we focus mainly on 3 key areas: Reading, spelling - integrating phonics and handwriting.
Many children have gaps in phonics knowledge, as the curriculum moves on quickly here. This impacts on their spellings.
Many children can decode & read words but often don’t have the skills to help them fully understand what they are reading. This then impacts on their reading comprehension.
These 2 skills together feed into their writing composition. I’m a firm believer in reading into writing to ignite children’s imaginations. We look at writing composition in a fun, engaging way, through independent choice of topic.
